Drama, Drama, Drama!!

I have always thought of plants as peaceful and the activity of growing and gardening calming and therapeutic so you can imagine my surprise when one of our customers wanted a gorgeous plant to make a statement and cause DRAMA! I just love it! I like the idea of our customary ways and ideas to be challenged! I am sure we all have that focal plant that always looks magnificent and makes a bold and daring statement where-ever in our home?

Maybe the DRAMA isn’t as above but rather the broad beans you planted last month taking over the veggie space and the lettuce and spinach are complaining! My lettuce and spinach are grumbling because my bokashi didn’t decompose the avo pip and so now in the middle of my veggie box I have an avo tree growing.

But thankfully the soap opera happening in my garden will stop soon and now is the time to move things around, transplant what you would like, to where you think it might do better.

Growing your own is still very important and on trend as we saw from Chelsea, so we decided to put all our fruit trees on special for the month of June (30% off marked price).

Have a look around your garden and see what changes you can make now to make your garden Spring ready. If you aren’t sure what goes where and which plant needs more sunlight or less competition, please come and chat to our teams with some photos - they will happily help.

With our first frost firmly behind us, the harshness of winter is now setting in – you can both see and feel it. Does the nakedness of the trees make you realize that you have bare patches in your gardening space - be it a garden, yard, patio or balcony - this provides an opportunity to evaluate your chosen background plants and pots and again see if you would like to change anything.

As I glance around most of my garden, it is more peaceful and apart from the riot of annual colour, each perennial, shrub and tree has its time to shine but in a more blended combination rather being the focus - maybe this type of gardening is safe and outdated and modern trends show us the gardening these days, whether it be in containers or large spaces, is all about DRAMA.

Come and visit our branches – they are renowned for their vivacious displays of colour and environmental awareness.  You will be captivated by our enthusiasm towards gardeners from all walks of life!
